Edward "Eddie" Bloomer has been a member of the Des Moines Catholic Worker Community since 1990.  Eddie has been involved in hundreds of direct actions against war and torture.  His has been arrested in these actions "about forty or fifty times."

A Vietnam-era veteran in the late 1960s, Ed's time in the Heavy Equipment Airborne Combat Unit in the Army, molded his call to peace activism.

Before joining the Des Moines Community he worked with Mitch Snyder and the Community for Creative Non Violence (CCNV) in Washington, D.C.  Bloomer took part in the famous fasting at the (CCNV) in 1974. The fast was intended to put pressure on the Nixon Administration during the Vietnam War, questioning justice and human rights.

In 1985, he returned to his hometown, Louisville, Ky., where he worked at Dare for Care, a second-harvest food bank and Project Warm, a heating assistance program before moving to Des Moines five years later.

Ed also engages in an ongoing ministry to prisoners and their families.
